Sherman - Funeral services for Wilson "Pookey" Cole will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 25 at Waldo Funeral Home.  Rev. Ken Dacus of the VIctory Missionary Baptist Church will officiate.  Burial with military honors will follow at West Hill Cemetery with grandsons Roy Farrow, Robert Cole, David Cole, Pat Just and Steve Wiggins serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Cole passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at the age of 88 in the Royse City Health and Rehab Center.
Wilson Harold Cole was born on December 25, 1921 near Tom Bean, to the late Robert W. and Flora Bell (Frazier) Cole.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1942.  While serving in the Samoan Islands, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.  After his discharge from the military in November 1944, Pookey and Gladys Burden were married on February 26, 1945 in Sherman.
He worked for Texas Power and Light as a lineman from 1945 to 1980.  During retirement, he owned and operated Pookey Cole Electric.  An avid outdoorsman, Pookey and Gladys often enjoyed fishing together at Sherman Country Club.  They had been married nearly 62 years when Gladys passed away in January 2007.  Pookey was a member of the Sherman Country Club, the Masonic Lodge, and Victory Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Cole is survived by one son, Robert Ray Cole and his wife, Linda, of Royse City; one daughter, Betty Farrow and husband, Dwayne, of Caddo Mills; one brother, Virgil "Pete" Cole of Sherman; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Cole.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Waldo Funeral Home.
