SHERMAN - Funeral services for Marion Yates Farrell, Sr. will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 13, at Waldo Funeral HOm.  Olden Cook of the Collinsville Church of Christ will officiate.  Burial with military honors will be at West Hill Cemetery with Gary Fallis, Derek Irvin, Trey Farrell, Gary Grady, Jamy Reimer, and Geddy Grady serving as pallbearers.  Mr. Ferrell, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center.
Marion Yates Farrell, Sr. was born on March 20, 1925 in Newport, Mississippi to the late Ellie and Elvira (Neaves) Farrell.  After graduating high school, he attended Mississippi State and Duke University where he studied civil engineering.
DUring World War II, Marion served in the U.S. Army as a tank commander.  For his valiant effort of single handedly destroying a German gun emplacement, Marion was awarded the Silver Star.  He also received the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters for injuries received in battle.
On July 2, 1950 Marion and Earlene Clifton were married in Kosciusko, Mississippi.  In 1963 they moved to Sherman, with Marion taking a job as manager of the C.W. Stafford Construction Company.  In 1977 he opened Farrell Construction Company and worked as the owner/operator until 2008, whe he retired to take care of Earlene.  Mr. Farrell was a member of the Western Heights Church of Christ, the NRA, and was an active member of the Republican Party.  An educated and avid reader, Marion enjoyed books on history, engineering and biographies.
Mr. Farrell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Earlene of Sherman; one son, Marion Farrell, Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Sherman; four daughters, Lisa Farrell of Sherman, Donna Fallis and husband, Gary, of Tom Bean; Kathy Hightower and husband, Steven, of Sherman; and Wendy grady and husband, Gary, of Sherman; 15 grandchildren: Trey Farrell, Danielle Farrell, David Umsted, Tracy Vannoy, Shelby Garner, Misty Irvin, Jamy Reimer, Miranda Curtman, Corey Rice, Tristan Roe, Michael Wilson, Wendy Smith, Becky Fallis, Geddy Grady and Devon Jennings; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Floyd of Sallis, Mississippi and Christine Turman and husband, Raymond, of Port Arthur; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friend.
Memorials may be made to Marion's favorite charity, the Foster's Home for Children at 1779 N. Graham, Stephenville, Texas 76401.
