Sherman - Services for Helen Spalding Keene Wilson, 92, of Sherman were held Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Wilson passed away December 22, 2010 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-WNJ. Don Keene and Steve Smith officiated. Pallbearers were K. C. McCurdy, George Neel, Troy Scoggins, Mark Busby, Adam Day and Mike Keown. Waldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. 
Helen was born November 28, 1918 in Sadler, Texas to C. L. and Mary Aravilla (Harshbarger) Spalding. She attended high school in Sadler and Whitesboro. She graduated from Texas Women's University and received her Master's degree from East Texas State University. She taught 4th grade, home economics and special education at S & S, Howe and Sherman.
She married J.R. Keene February 17, 1940 and he passed away November 1969. In August of 1974 she married Carroll K. Wilson and he passed away September 2004. Helen lived in Southmayd Community until 1974 when she moved to Portales, New Mexico. She came back to Sherman in 2002. She was a member of Western Heights Church of Christ and did extensive volunteer work for a mission hospital in Chamala, Africa, spending hundreds of hours sewing clothes for the hospital. 
Helen is survived by her sons, Wayne Keene and wife, Sally, of Sherman; and Mark Keene and wife, Linda, of Quitman, Texas; daughter Dianne Smith and husband, Steve, of Abilene; sister Lois Whaley of Pampa, Texas; sister-in-law Ena Spalding of Midland, Texas; grandchildren Don Keene of Sherman, Kim McCurdy of Aurora, Dene' Scoggins of Decatur, Marla Neel of Euless, Casey Busby of Como, Heidi Laux of Camden, Tennessee and Meg Day of Selmer, Tennessee; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous other nieces, nephews other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Joe Spalding and Dan Spalding; and sister Kathleen Spalding. 

Memorial may be made to the Mission Hospital in Chamala, Africa, (c/o New York Ave. Church of Christ, 5371 New York Ave., Arlington, Texas 76018 or New Mexico Christian Children's Home, 1356 New Mexico 236, Portales, New Mexico 88130-9412.
