BILLYE FAYE THOMPSON RITES SCHEDULED FRIDAY
Graveside Services for Billye Faye Thompson, recipient of the American Red Cross of Merit, will be Friday afternoon at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, Grayson County.
Ms. Thompson was the 53rd Texan to be awarded the Red Cross award - the highest honor given by the organization.  She was presented the certificate of merit by President Harry Truman.  She received the certificate for saving the lives of 5 car accident victims by administering first aid.
She was born in Sherman and was a 1933 graduate of Austin College there.  Ms. Thompson taught in the Sherman Public School District before becoming coordinator of the Distributive Education program at Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas, from 1942 until 1974.
Ms. Thompson was a member of the Dallas County Chapter of the American Red Cross for more than 35 years.  During her active membership, she taught Dallas area FBI agents survival techniques for the atomic bomb and also lectured for the American Red Cross throughout the United States, Central America and Puerto Rico.
Surviving are 2 sisters, Lillian Thompson of Dallas and Mrs. Ruth Frye of Memphis, Tennessee; a brother, J.W. "Dub" Thompson of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.
