Eddie McGrew, a Sherman young man, lost his life while doing duty on his engine Sunday afternoon and his remains are being laid away today at West Hill.  The news of Eddie's premature death came as a fell stroke to his young wife, his parents, and sisters and his young associates in Sherman are saddened.  The Democrat deeply sympathizes with the family.  We knew Eddie as a happy youth when he was a carrier boy.  He was ever courteous and punctual.  He went out into the world to make his way a few years ago.  It is said of him that he worked much overtime and conscientiously for his company without complaint and that he did acceptable service.

TWO PERSONS KILLED IN WRECK ON T & P
Train No. 4 Crashes Into Rear of "Sunshine Special" Near Strawn

FOUR PASSENGERS INJURED
Engineer and Fireman of Passenger Train Crushed to Death Between Tender and Engine

Ft. Worth, Texas - Two persons were instantly killed and 4 were seriously injured 6 miles west of Strawn in Palo Pinto County, Sunday afternoon when a Texas & Pacific passenger train ran into the rear of the "Sunshine Special."  The dead are W.W. Givens, engineer, and Edward [sic] E. McGrew, fireman, Ft. Worth.
According to the railroad men, Engineer Givens and Fireman McGrew were caught between the tender and engine and crushed to death.

RUN OVER TORPEDO SIGNALS
The Sunshine Special had stopped at a water tank west of Strawn when the collision occurred.  Realizing that the train was coming from behind, Brakeman Taylor of the Sunshine Special went back a quarter of a mile and placed 2 torpedoes on the track.  Then he returned to his own train and climbed upon the rear platform.
A number of passengers were on the rear platform of the Sunshine Special.  They heard train No. 4 go over the torpedoes, but the train kept right on and was going about 20 miles an hour, a passenger said, when the oncoming engine crashed into the standing coaches.
Both the engineer and fireman must have died almost instantly in their cab.  Those injured were all standing on the rear platform of the Sunshine Special or in the rear coach.
