Services for Hazel Marie Popplewell, 68, who passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-WNJ will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday July 6, 2011 at Dannel Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jerry Henry of Sadler-Southmayd Baptist Church will officiate. The family will be at Dannel Funeral Home for visitation on Tuesday from 7 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Popplewell was born July 26, 1942 in Dallas, TX, to William Nolan Stubbs and Hazel Iona Hargrove Stubbs. Her mother died in 1948 and she was raised by her Aunt Druscilla Wilson who instilled strong Christian beliefs and strong family connections. She graduated from Sunset High School and married Tommy G. Wooton, July 2, 1959.

On January 31, 1976, Hazel Marie married Victor L. Popplewell, Sr., and gained a son, Victor L. Popplewell, Jr.

Left to mourn Marie's passing are: spouse, Victor L. Popplewell, Sr.; children: Hazel Annette Runnels and husband Mark, Tommy J. Wooton and wife Cindy, William Eric Wooton and wife Tuesday, and Victor L. Popplewell, Jr. and wife Ramona; one brother: Nolan Wayne Stubbs and wife Cecelia, and one sister: Linda Ruth Brigance and husband Loyd: sisters-in-law Shirley McWhirter (Danny), Ruth Ann Hightower (Gaylon), Marshia Popplewell, Betty Popplewell. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Cora Popplewell, Andrew Popplewell, Sarah Popplewell, Cole Runnels, Aaron Runnels, Janae Runnels, Amber Wooton, Crystal Wooton Landers, Holly Wooton, David Johnson, Caleb Toon, Alexander Wooton, Britton Wooton, one great-grandchild Benjamin Landers, many nieces, nephews and cousins, who loved their "Aunt Ree".

Marie was predeceased by her parents, paternal grandparents Merkel Nolan Stubbs and Ella Janette Diamond Stubbs, maternal grandparents Marquis Hargrove and Ruth Ann (Donoho) Hargrove, and one daughter Shawnaree Wooton.

Marie was the great-great-granddaughter of George W. Diamond of Whitesboro, and was instrumental in the clean-up and recovery of the Diamond Family Cemetery in Whitesboro and the family marker therein. Marie asks that, in lieu of flowers, she would appreciate contributions to the Whitesboro Public Library in her memory to 308 W. Main St., Whitesboro, TX. 76273.
