SHERMAN, Texas, Feb. 10.-- J. M. Gibby, a farmer, who resided 3 miles south of Southmayd, near Prairie view School, died of a gunshot wound Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock. A single charge was fired.
His daughter, Ida Louisa, 15, was questioned in connection with the case.  Officers were told that Gibby was threatening his wife with a butcher knife when the gun was fired.  Ida Louisa is one of 7 children. It is said the family had called officers to the home once or twice in the last year.
Officers from the sheriff's department were called to the home immediately after the shooting.
In a statement to County Attorney Joe P. Cox and Sheriff Frank Reece, Ida Louisa declared she fired one barrel of a double-barreled shotgun in defense of herself and her mother as well as a younger brother, Jack Murrel. She said Gibby had threatened them with a rifle and a butcher knife, telling the mother he would cut her head off. She was held for further questioning.
All the children were said to be in the room at the time of the tragedy. They were William Henry, James Tilden, Thelma Jewell, Annie Ruth, Imogene and Jack.  Another daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Massie of Sherman, is a half-sister to the other children.
The home is a three-room structure.

Jerry Wall, Sherman contractor, at work on a building nearby heard the shot, investigated and called the county officers.
