Death of a Former Citizen of Anderson County
We have received a copy of the Sherman (Texas) Daily Democrat, of the 21st inst., which contained the following notice of the death of a former citizen of Anderson County.
Major D.L. Cox died this morning about 1 o'clock at his home on South Walnut street.  He had been sick for a few days but not confined to his bed and his death was very unexpected.
Just a few minutes before his death Major Cox became very sick and his death is attributed to heart failure.
Major Cox was 79 years old.  He came to Sherman from South Carolina 11 years ago and has resided here since.
He was a Confederate soldier, as brave and true an officer as ever served the Southern cause.  He has been a member of the M.E. Church South for 40 years, and was a consistent Christian and an unright gentleman.
Major Cox leaves a wife and two children, J.G. Cox and Mrs. D.S. White of Sherman.
He was a kind and loving husband and father and loyal citizen and his death will cause universal sorrow at his old Carolina home as well as the community where he has lived for the last eleven years.
To the bereaved relatives, the most sincere sympathy of the Democrat is extended.
The funeral will take place at the family residence, No. 917 South Walnut street at 4 o'clock this afternoon.  Interment at West Hill cemetery.
Maj. Cox was born and reared near Belton, in this county and resided in the County until he moved to Texas.  He was well known throughout this section, and was highly esteemed by all of his friends.  At the outbreak the the civil war, he raised a company of volunteers, which was mustered in as Co. D Second South Carolina Regiment, and his old comrades say that there was never a braver soldier in the Confederate service.  He rose to the rank of Major of his Regiment.  He taught school in his young manhood, and filled various positions of honor and trust, serving one term as County Commissioner.  His many old friends will regret to hear of his death.
