Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Forest Avenue Baptist Church for William P. Brigance, 73 of 207 E. Wilson, retired paint contractor, who died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, at a Sherman hospital.
Services were conducted by Rev. Roy Jerrell, pastor of the Forest Avenue Baptist Church, with burial at West Hill Cemetery, under the direction of the Waldo Funeral Home, Military honors were accorded at graveside.
Mr. Brigance was born May 6, 1896 at Pierce City, Missouri, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Brigance.  He was married to the former Miss Marie Larimont, on March 25, 1919 at Nogent, France.
He received his schooling at Pierce City, Missouri public schools and had lived in Sherman since April 1920.  He was a paint contractor and decorator all of his life, retiring in 1961.  He was a veteran of World War I, serving in France with the United States Army.
Mr. Brigance had been business agent and financial secretary for the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators and Paper Hangers of America, Local No. 492 for many years and was quartermaster for VFW Post No. 2772 for the past 12 years.  He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 22 and one of the Sherman Barracks of World War I Veterans of the United States.  He was a longtime member of the Forest Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife of Sherman; one son, John Brigance of Lamarque, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Walton of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Johnson and Mrs. Ruby McQuary, both of Riverside California; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Palbearers were L.H. Young Sr., R.E. Jackson, O.H. Hazelip, Claude A. Morrison, L. McMillan and F.L. Walling. 
Honorary pallbearers were W.H. McClure, Carl Johnson, Carl Alexander, L.C. Reeves Jr., A.G. Davenport, and all members of the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators and Paper Hangers Local No. 492.
Memorials may be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.




Services for Marie Eugenie Brigance, an 89 year-old homemaker who died Saturday in a Sherman hospital, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Forest Avenue Baptist Church.  Rev. Jeff Reid of the church officiated and burial was at West Hill Cemetery.  Waldo Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Brigance was born in Nogent En Bassingy, France, a daughter of Francois Albert and Elisabeth Isabell Larimont.  She was a World War I bride, having married William Paul Brigance on March 25, 1919, in her native city.  After World War I, she and her husband moved to Pierce City, Missouri, and then to Sherman in 1920. Mrs. Brigance was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Forest Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors are her son, John Brigance of Dallas; daughter, Dorothy Walton of Sherman; five grandchildren and three great-children.
Memorials may be made to the Marie Brigance Memorial Fund, in care of Forest Avenue Baptist Church.
