Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in Waldo Funeral chapel here for J.D. Akridge, 56, of Travis St. Road, grain and trucking business man.  He died at 8 a.m. Tuesday in a Sherman hospital, 3 hours after suffering a stroke.  Rev. Charles E. Glass, pastor of the First Penacostal Church, and Rev. John P. Minter, pastor of Grand Ave. Presbyterian Church, conducted the services.  Burial was in West Hill Cemetery.
Harry Hudgins, Lloyd Dulaney, Sr., Jerry Talley, Jack Howell, Charles Newsom, Delbert Nichols, Charles Atnip, and Norris Lipscomb were pallbearers.
Mr. Akridge was born February 22, 1906 in the Desert Community, south of Whitewright.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Akridge.  On December 9, 1929, he married Miss Jacqualyn Newsom.  He had lived in Sherman since 1914 and attended public school here.  He was a member of Grand Ave. Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Edward Shand of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Sandra Kay Qualls of Sherman; a sister, Mrs. W.S. Caraway of Blue Ridge; 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
