Services for Emma Jean "Ms. Emma" Welch, former Sherman resident, will be held Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Forest Avenue Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. James Heffington of Forest Avenue Baptist Church, Rev. Jeff Reid and Rev. Stephen Warren both former pastors of the church. Pallbearers will be Bobby Brady, David Brady, Stephen Burch, Dusty Griffin, Cary Griffin, Beau Brady, Bryan Brady and Barry Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Forest Avenue Baptist Church. Miss Emma passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011. Waldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Emma was born January 28, 1922 in Gunter, TX to Oscar and Lydia (Baker) Layman. She graduated from Whitewright High School in 1940. On September 9, 1940 she married Bob Welch and they were married until his death on June 27, 1985. For many years they enjoyed playing dominos. She also enjoyed her friends and going out to eat on Friday night. She was a resident of the Renaissance before moving to Coppell. Ms. Emma was the secretary and bookkeeper for Forest Avenue Baptist Church for 53 years. The church has dedicated a prayer garden and play ground in Emma and Bob Welch's name.
Preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents, son-in-law Jim Burch and sister Daisy Stepp, she is survived by her daughters Margaret Brady and husband Bill of Carrollton and Lana Burch of Gilbert, AZ, grandchildren Robert Brady and wife Cheryl of Corinth, TX, David Brady and wife Anna of Carrollton, TX, Jamie Hall and husband Rick of Tigard, OR, Deborah Peverill and husband Dustin of Fallon, NV and Stephen Burch and wife Gail of Tigard, OR, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, 1 nephew and a host of friends.
There will be a visitation from 1:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the service on Thursday, March 3rd at Forest Avenue Baptist Church, 106 W. Forest, Sherman, TX 75090.
