James "Jim" Albert Rogers of Plano and formerly of Whitesboro, 76-year-old retired air traffic controller, passed away Monday morning, October 19, 2009 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. 

Services were 11 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel, Sherman. Rev. Mike Flanagan, pastor of First Baptist Church in Whitesboro, officiated and the burial followed at West Hill Cemetery. An honor guard from Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls conducted military graveside honors.
Jim was born December 11, 1932 in Sherman, the son of Jefferson Davis Rogers and Katherine Louise Chewning Rogers. He attended Sherman elementary schools before moving to the suburb of Oak Cliff in Dallas where he attended Sunset High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and eventually began his training as an air traffic controller before his honorable discharge in 1956. He also attended several classes at SMU in Dallas. He married Patricia Sanders on September 28, 1962 in Garland. They raised their family in Grand Prairie for 32 years and were members of Inglewood Baptist Church. 

Jim was an air traffic controller in Atlanta and Valdosta, Georgia before taking employment at Dallas Love Field. He then continued his career at DFW International Airport when it opened for service and retired in 1986. He loved to fly planes and had earned his pilot's license, both commercial license and multi-engine license. He also taught air traffic control in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 
In addition to flying, Jim loved fishing, camping in Colorado, deer hunting and golf. He was the true outdoorsman. Following retirement he was very involved as a leader of the Boy Scouts with his grandson Chris. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Whitesboro and had lived in Plano for the past 2-1/2 months. 
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Rogers of Plano; daughters, Pam Gonzales and husband, Mike, of Richardson; Martha Bercen and husband, John, of Plano; and Sandy Smith and husband, Glenn, of Rockford, Illinois; brothers, Sid Rogers and wife, Nelda, of Denton; Sam Rogers and wife, Joy, of Sherman; Jay Rogers and wife, Evelyn, of San Antonio; Melvin Rogers and wife, Ann, of Killeen; and Tommy Autry and wife, Lugene, of Winnsboro; sisters, Edna Kindred of Waxahachie; and Frances Taylor and husband, Joe, of Irving.  He is also survived by grandchildren, Chris McLemore, Joey Bercen and Jessie Bercen, Nathaniel Smith, Darcy Smith and Luke Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parent;s and a sister, Billie Hansen. 

Pallbearers were Verlin Sanders, Gene Sanders, Sid Rogers, Sam Rogers, Jay Rogers, Melvin Rogers, Steve Hansen, and Tommy Autry.
