A SERIOUS ACCIDENT
Mrs. John Petty, a resident on Gandy street, was badly burned yesterday by the rather free use of keroscene.  She was lighting the fire with the oil when the blaze caught the oil in the can and caused an explosion.  Her dress was set on fire, and she ran out in the wind, screamingas she went to one of the neighbors. A  number came to her assistance and extinguished the flames with some difficulty.  The lady was badly burned about her feet, limbs and arms.
Late last evening she was doing well, with a good prospect of recovery.
The house was set on fire, which was extinguished by Mrs. Hutton, a neighbor, before a great deal of damage was done.
Another report which we believe is correct is that Mrs. Petty had the presence of mind to run to the well, and grasping a bucket of water, dashed the contents on her head and person, thus extinguishing the fire.
The attending physician informed us late last night the he did not consider injuries dangerous.
Mrs. John Petty's residence is on Gandy street, next door west of Dr. Field's.
