HANK JOHNSON DEAD
One of the Best Known Residents Of Sherman Passes Away

Hank Johnson, a pioneer citizen of Sherman, died shortly after midnight Saturday night and his body was laid to rest in West Hill Cemetery Sunday afternoon following services at the home of his brother, Mr. a nd Mrs. O.F. Johnson, No. 1312 South Travis street, at 4 o'clock, conducted by Dr. B. Wrenn Webb, pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church.  The following acted as pallbearers: Ed Staples, George Rigby, J.D. Masters, J.H. Brown, and G.B. Carlson.
Hank Johnson was about 72 years of age at the time of his death, having been born January 5, 1845.  He was born in Green Village, Ohio but later went to Wisconsin and at the outbreak of the Civil War, he entered the service of the Unio Army and served 4 years with the 4th Wisconsin Light Artillery.
After the war, more than 40 years ago, he came to Sherman and for many years was engaged in the lightning rod business with his brother, O.F. Johnson.
He was prominent in local Republican and G.A.R. Circles.
The death of Hank Johnson will be learned with deep regret wherever he was known, for he was a man of strong personality and had the knack of making friends with all whom he met.
He was one of the original organizers and promoters of the Grayson County Poultry Association and for quite a time was an active officer in the organization.  He never lost interest in fine poultry and at the December show in Sherman had a string of his famous Plymouth Rocks on exhibition and personally attended the showl
He was sick only a few days, being attacked with pneumonia about a week before his death.
He is survived by one brother, O.F. Johnson of this city.  He was never married.
