Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Barrett Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. J.W. Ellis, 94, who made her home at 619 S. Throckmorton.  Mrs. Ellis died late Wednesday night at a local hospital.
Services were conducted by Rev. Fred Hall, minister of Central Christian Church.  Burial was in West Hill Cemetery under the direction of Barrett Funeral Home.  Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Mary Jane Ellis was born December 5, 1872 in Illinois, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Sanders.  She moved to Texas with her parents as a child. She received her education in Collin County schools.  She married Mr. J.W. Ellis in 1889 in Caddo Mills, Texa.  Mr. Ellis died January 3, 1947.  Mrs. Ellis had lived in Texas for 79 years and in Sherman for 22 years.  She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Princeton, Texas.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Rebecca Lodge in McKinney.  She had hell all offices in the Rebecca Lodge.
Survivors are 4 sons, Walter Ellis of McKinney; Levi Ellis of Sherman; Howard Ellis of Dallas; and Fred Ellis of Texas City; 5 daughters, Miss Lizzie Ellis, Mrs. Lillian Guffee, Mrs. Leona Cavender and Mrs. Johnny Nelson, all of Sherman; and Mrs. Lena Mitchell of Utica, Oklahoma; 29 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; 36 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lindsey Sanders of Conwall, Oklahoma; and Bayron Sanders of Palm Springs, California; 2 sisters, Mrs. Arkie Parnell of Lubbock; and Mrs. Rusia Null of Oiltown, Oklahoma.
