Captain Leander F. Ely, who died at his home No. 709 W. Washington avenue Thursday afternoon was one of Sherman's pioneer citizens.
Capt. Ely was known to all of the people of the city.  He was a plain, unpretentious man of sterling qualities, well-liked by all.  He belonged to that class of patriots who blazed the way for civilization, and he did his full part in converting the forest and the virgin prairies into homes for the people, and has helped civilization on its onward course.
