Berniece Miller Brown, 94, of Sherman passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 after an extended illness.  Services were held Tuesday morning, January 11, 2011 at Dannel Funeral Home.
Berniece was born July 7, 1916 in Basin Springs.  She graduated from Basin Springs schools and married Lester O'Neal on March 17, 1940.  They had a son, Norman, and began to make plans for their life ahead.  Tragically, Mr. O'Neal died on June 6, 1944 during the invasion of Normandy; and Berniece was left to care for herself and Norman on her own.  Eventually she met G.W. "Dub" Brown and they began a courtship and then married on May 14, 1946.  They also had a son together, Philip.
Berniece was a life long member of the Church of Christ, first in Gordonville and then for the last 60 years in Pottsboro.  She also had a tremendous love for gardening.  She would always wear her homemade straw bonnets and wear plenty of sunscreen, which was her secret for her youthful appearance.  And as long as the weather permitted, she found a reason to go outside every day of her life.  She was a loving mother and wife.
Berniece was preceded in death by her husband, "Dub" Brown; and one sister, Beatrice Lindsay.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Norman O'Neal and wife, Elva, of Sherman; and Philip Charles Brown of Sherman;  brother, Dolan Miller of Irving; sister, Mary Leola Mick of Gilmer; and several nieces and nephews.
