Carolyn Squires, 89, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at Pecan Point Assisted Living in Sherman. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, at Dannel Funeral Home, with Orvie Lee Cantrell and Randy Reddell officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Squires was born in Dallas, Texas on February 19, 1922. She was the daughter of Loren and Vera (Madison) Butts. She married Warren Glenn Squires on June 15, 1946. She attended public schools in Dallas; and continued her education at the University of Texas in Austin where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History. She earned a Master of Arts degree in higher education at Austin College in Sherman. She was employed in Dallas in the insurance and communications fields. For 33 years, she was a member of the administrative staff of Austin College; working in the areas of academic curriculum, faculty personnel, and overall college policy and governments. She was the recipient of the Homer P. Rainey Award for Outstanding Achievement and Service to Austin College in 1981. A resident of Sherman since 1954, Mrs. Squires was an active member of Central Christian Church where she served as a deaconess, taught Sunday School classes and held several offices in the Christian Women€™s Fellowship. She was a member of Grayson County Historical Society and other organizations including The American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, The Sherman Shakespeare Club, The Austin College Campus Club, The Ethel Rentfro Book Review Club, and The Texoma Outdoor Club.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Katharine Prather, niece Lynda McLean and her husband Mark, and nephew Wally Brian; all of New Braunfels, Texas. She is also survived by several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer€™s Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
