Sherman - Former city council member W. Grover Cantrell, Sr., 86, died late Tuesday in a Richardson hospital.
Services will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Dannel-Horton Chapel with burial in West Hill Cemetery.  
Cantrell was born Feb. 26, 1893, at Cannon near Van Alstyne, son of J.D. and Sarah Miller Cantrell.  He moved to Sherman at the age of 10 and attended Sherman schools.  He married Beth Ann McElroy on May 12, 1920 in Sherman.
A member of First United Methodist Church, Cantrell served several years in the choir.
He was a former administrator of Wilson N. Jones Hospital and was retired from Continental Oil Co., where he was an agent 30 years. He was also employed by M&P Bank in Sherman and Waples Platter in Denison.  He was a sports enthusiast and donated the flag pole at Austin College Stadium
A 32nd Degree Mason, Cantrell was a member of Travis Lodge No. 117, Scottish Rite and Hella Temple Shrine.  He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the army of occupation.  
Survivors include a son, W. Grover Cantrell Jr. of Sherman; two daughters, Sarah C. Smith of Richardson and Ann C. Hicks, Houston; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 8 p.m.  

Memorials may be made to B.B. Owen Memorial Hospital in Richardson and to the First United Methodist Church Choir Fund.
