Sherman - L.T. White was born in Tulia, Texas, September 20, 1928, son of Loy T. and Irene Nelson White.  He passed February 22, 2014 in Sherman, Texas at 85 years of age.
L.T. grew up in Tulia and Canyon, Texas and graduated from West Texas High School in Canyon.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Wayland Baptist College and his Master of Science in Education from Baylor University.  L.T. taught his first year in Plainview, Texas, and then served two years in  the U.S. Army, during the Korean conflict.
Accepting a teaching position offered by Superintendent Byron Davis, L.T. moved to Sherman in1954.  During his 32-year career in elementary education with Sherman ISD, he taught at Crockett and then was Principal at Crockett, Fairview, Perrin and Crutchfield schools, retiring in 1986.  In September 2008 the Sherman Ex-Students Association recognized him as Outstanding Past Educator of the Year.
December 4, 1962, L.T. began his 50 years of perfect attendance with the Sherman Rotary Club.  During that time he served as Club President and District Governor (1986-1987).  He was one of six Past District Governors that were responsible for starting PETS (President Elect Training Seminar), served five years as a PETS board member and was recognized with "Paul Harris Fellowship" award.
L.T. was baptized at First Baptist Church, Tulia on December 19, 1937.  He joined First Baptist church Sherman in 1954.  In 60 + years of continuous service he held many leadership roles, including Chairman of the Deacons and Sunday School Superintendent.
L.T. was very involved in his community and worked closely with Friends of the Sherman Public Library, United Way, and other area causes.  In 1957 he was one of 8 founding members of what is now known as Texoma Teacher's Credit Union.
On October 7, 1950, L.T. married Patsy Ann Taylor in Morton, Texas.  They had been married for 52 years upon her death in 2003.  He married Betty Mershon on December 17, 2005.
L.T. is survived by his son, Gary White and wife, Karen, of Sherman; son, Randy White and wife, Kathy, of McKinney; and grandson, Ryan White of McKinney; brother, H.D. White and wife, Myrtle, of Amarillo; sister, Sue Merrill of Lubbock; sister-in-law, Dorothy Jerden and husband, Winston, of Morton; sister-in-law, Jimmie Buchanan of Corsicana; and numerous nieces and nephews; wife, Betty White of Sherman; her son, Phillip Mershon and wife, Susan, of North Carolina, and their daughter, Myla; her daughter, Tina Borden and husband, David, of Plano, and their children, Connor and Brooke; her son, Brett Mershon and wife, Kayce, of McKinney. and their children, Conner  and Kamryn.
L.T. was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Oma Lee White and Artie Nell Pinkerton.
Dr. Mike Lawson led the memorial services for L.T. White at First Baptist Church in Sherman on Tuesday afternoon, February 25.  First Baptist Church deacons served as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FBC Christian Education Memorial Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church, Sherman, Texas or to the Rotary Education Foundation.
