Ithaca, New York - Clarence DeWitt Franklin, 79, of Danby, New York, died Saturday afternoon at his residence.
He is the son of Harreal W. and Reatha Franklin.
Clarence enjoyed reading detective stories and science fiction.  A graduate from Fredrick Douglas High School in Sherman, he went to work in the Pontiac Foundry in Detroit, Michigan before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After the war, he received a teaching degree from Friends University and later taught in Wichita, Kansas.  Afterward, he joined the Teacher Corps at Buffalo State College that taught teachers how to teach students in inner city schools.  Upon completion of this program, he taught remedial math in the Buffalo Public Schools before retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; daughters, Deborah Ghee and Martha Franklin; sons, Clarence Franklin, Jr.; Jerry Franklin and wife, Carol; Michael Franklin and wife, Emma; Philip Franklin and wife, Felina; James; Andrew Franklin and wife, Stacey; Thomas Franklin and wife, Lyn; and Matthew Franklin; a sister-in-law, Crissy Franklin; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Consuelo Parker; two brothers, Joseph and Harry Franklin, Jr.
A memorial service was held Wednesday evening, November 3, 2020 at the Herson Funeral Home, Ithaca, New York.  Burial was Saturday noon in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas, with full military honors.
If  desired, memorials may be made in Clarence's name to a charity of the donor's choice. 
Arrangements were completed by the Herson Funeral Home, Ithaca, New York.
