DEATH COMES TO COL. GRAVES LEEPER
Col. Graves Leeper, 76, "the man who laughed himself into office as Oklahoma secretary of state in 1926," died in a sanitarium in Sherman Monday afternoon, after an acute illness, following a period of several years of ill health.  Col. Leeper was well known in Honey Grove, having visited here on many occasions in years gone by, his last visit being something like a year ago.  He was always welcome to Honey Grove....
Col. Leeper retired as secretary of state in Oklahoma shortly after the first of January, having completed his 4th term,  becoming ill a short time later and was moved to the home of his sister, Mrs. J.B. Wilson in Sherman.
Col. Leeper was born May 24, 1854 at Chillicothe, Missouri, and was 7 years of age at the time of the Civil War.  At the age of 22 he moved to Texas, settling near Sherman.  During the land rush in 1889 he went to Oklahoma, later returning to Texas, and again returning to the Sooner State in 1898.  While residing in Texas, he was engaged in the lumber business and owned several yards in Texas and Oklahoma.
He is survived by one sister, one brother, 4 cousins and 6 nephews.
The funeral was held in Sherman Wednesday with burial in that city.
