FUNERAL SERVICES HERE FRIDAY FOR PFC. ELMER JOE KEY
The body of Pfc. Elmer Joe Key arrived in Whitewright at 11:22 a. m. Thursday over the MKT and was taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Key, where it will remain until 1:30 p.m. Friday, when funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church.  The services will be the first held in Whitewright for a soldier killed in World War II.
Pfc. Kay was killed in Kumming, China by snipers on September 27, 1945 and he was buried in the U.S. Military Cemetery at Kumming, where the body remained until shipped to the United States.  The body arrived in San Francisco February 11, and was sent from there to Ft. Worth and then to Whitewright.
Pfc. Key was born April 2, 1924  at Trenton and was 21 years of age at the time of his death.  He joined the Army December 5, 1942 and was sent overseas September 10, 1943.   He was wounded 3 times and was awarded the Purple Heart and a Presidential unit citation.   He was a member of the 132nd Army Air Force Base Unit, India-China Division.  He received his training at Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls; Las Vegas, New Mexico; Long Beach, California; and Johnson Field, North Carolina.  He was a member of the Baptist Church.
The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. E.P. Wootten of Celina, former pastor.  The burial service will be held at West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, with the American Legion in charge.  Burial will be in the Veterans Memorial Plot.  The body was accompanied to Whitewright by a military escort.
Besides his parents, Pfc. Key is survived by 2 brothers, W.B. and Junior Key, both of whom served in Word War II, and a sister, Mrs. Betty Lou Withrow of Dallas; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Sanderson, route one.
