Joe Mac Swindle, 91, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2019.  He was born April 20, 1928 in Sherman, son of Joseph Grady Swindle and Suzanne Bernice McCampbell Swindle.  Mac lived his childhood in Sherman, joining the Travis Street Methodist Church in 1941 and  continuing his membership after the move to First Methodist Church at its present location.  After graduation from Sherman High School, he enrolled at Texas A&M where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Civil Engineering.
After college graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Japan with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.  Upon completion of his tour of duty, Mac joined the Texas Highway Department (now Texas Department of Transportation) as an instrument man, rising to the rank of Senior Resident Engineer for Grayson County in his last 16 years prior to retirement in 1983.  Mac was particularly proud of the department's design of pedestrian bridges over Highway 75.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Shearin Swindle, whom he married in the Little Chapel in the Woods on the TCSW campus (now Texas Women's University) in Denton on March 29, 1952.  He is also survived by his son, Mark Christopher Swindle and wife, Jane; 2 grandchildren, Mason Swindle and Laura McKenzie Swindle Enriquez and husband, David; one great-grandchild, Max Enriquez; and son-in-law, Rick Hemingway.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Susan Hemingway.
As many residents of Sherman can attest, Mary Jane and Mac loved to take long walks almost every day.  Mac also enjoyed swimming at Austin College, coffee klatches with friends, spending hours on the computer, traveling throughout the United States and Mexico; reading, and, of course, the cure-all of all cure-alls, watching television.  Mary Jane and Mac felt like it was important to lead a healthy lifestyle, including plenty of exercise, even in their later years.
Mac loved spending time with his family, and he had great respect for his friends and coworkers.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, June 21, 2019 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman.  Burial followed in West Hill Cemetery.

Mary Jane Swindle, 93, passed away peacefully October 6, 2022.  She was born April 14, 1929, daughter of Charles Parker Shearin and Marguerite Huckaby Shearin.  Mary Jane lived her childhood in Van Alstyne, Texas.   As a youth she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Van  Alstyne, and after marriage joined the First United Methodist Church in Sherman.
Mary Jane graduated from Van Alstyne High School and first attended Austin College.  She completed her Bachelor's degree in science from Texas Women's College in Denton (now called Texas Women's University).  After graduation she taught in the Tom Bean school system for 4 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, Joe Mac Swindle, whom she married March 29, 1952, in the Little Chapel in the Woods in Denton.
She is survived by her son, Mark Christopher Swindle and wife, Jane Elizabeth Swindle; 2 grandchildren, Mason Kyle Swindle; and Laura McKenzie Swindle Enriquez and husband, David Enriquez; 2 great-grandchildren, Max and Miles Enriquez; son-in-law, Rick Hemingway; sister, Billie Nell Norris; 2 nieces and one nephew.  Mary Jane was predeceased by daughter, Margaret Susan Hemingway.
One of Mary's favorite commitments was the 7 years she served in the Sherman Service League.  As a part of the Service League, she particularly enjoyed and participated in the delivery of meals to the elderly.  She remained a financial contributor to various "Meals on Wheels" programs after her service in the Service League.
In her younger years, Mary Jane was actively involved in church activities.  Together, she and Joe Mac, were dedicated to daily exercise, including walking and swimming.  They enjoyed traveling whenever they had the opportunity.
The family accepts Mary Jane's death as a sad loss to the family and she and Joe  Mac loved and were important role models to their children.
Graveside service was held Wednesday afternoon, October 12, at West Hill Cemetery.
