The family celebrates the life of Helen Marie Mentzel who peacefully went home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2014.  During her 84 years she lovingly influenced her family to have faith in Christ, value education, develop a strong work ethic, and persevere through life's challenges.  Her kind and sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held Monda morning, March 3, 2014 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
Helen was born in Ft. Towson, Oklahoma on July 8, 1929, daughter of Harry and Mary Foster Chesshir.  Helen graduated high school in Burbank, California and later married Pete Mentzel on July 10, 1948 in Taos, New Mexico.  She was the co-owner of Mentzel's Appliance in Sherman for 33 years.  Helen provided bookkeeping services for Belmont Baptist Church while serving as Secretary and then became a faithful member of East Sherman Baptist Church.
Helen is survived by her 3 sons, Kurt Mentzel and wife, Linda, of Arlington, Texas; Karl Mentzel and wife, Debbie, of Bountiful, Utah; and John Mentzel and wife, Cheryl, of Sherman; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother; and husband.
She was a resident of The Renaissance Senior Living Community in Sherman, Texas. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
