 West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas   Leonard Smart was born Tuesday, August 25, 1925 in Mason, Texas, son of Harvey and Lena Griffith Smart and departed this life on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at his home at the age of 91. Leonard married his sweetheart, Harriette Souhrada, on Septembe 2, 1944 in Yuma, Arizona. Leonard served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on pipeline all throughout the United States and retired with the Grayson County maintenance department. Leonard loved NASCAR, football and gardening. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 71 years; son, Dennis Smart of Florida; and daughter, Darlene Karpis and husband, Nick, of Nida, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Traci Laisch, Michael Smart, Amanda Lynn, Sean Woolsey, Chance Woolsey, Stefanie Mwaura, Natasha Karpis, and Kole Karpis; 14 great-grandkids; 7 great-great-grandkids; and 2 brothers, Marvin Smart of Graham, Texas and Johnnie Smart of Lawton, Oklahoma. Interment was in West Hill Cemetery with Deniis Smart, Sean Woolsey, Chance Woolsey, Kole Karpis, Nicholas Mwaura, and Jim Corbett serving as pallbearers.
