Claude Richard "Dick" Peterson. 80. passed away on October 15, 2011 at his residence in Sherman, Texas.
Pastor Tim  Harkins of the Sherman Bible Church officiated the funeral service held at Dannel Funeral Home Tuesday morning, October 18, 2011.  Burial followed at historic West Hill Cemetery.
Dick was born in 1931, son of Albin and Ruby Eskew Peterson in Bruning, Nebraska.  He attended the University of Nebraska first and then completed his Applied Science degree at Metropolitan State College of Denver, Colorado, while working full time at night and attending school during the day.  He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and then as a technician with the Air National Guard.
Dick married Merle Jeanne "Jean" Weyers on May 30, 1953 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  They moved to Denver, Colorado in 1957, where he worked for Gates Rubber Co., then to Florence, Kentucky in 1976 and finally to Sherman. Texas in 1979.  He retired after 29 years.  Dick and Jean celebrated 58 years together before his passing.
Dick was a craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands.  As a woodworker, he created numerous items, among which were desks, dressers, a rocking horse, an 18-wheeler truck, a replica of the Red Baron's plane, puzzles, and business card holders.  As a leather worker, he created custom belts, flask holders, and other items.  He also enjoyed building model replicas with the kids and grandkids, including large sailing ships and aircraft.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorthy Essay and her husband, Charlie.
Dick is survived by his wife; a son, Chris Roy Peterson of Arlington; and a daughter, Julie Ann Owens and husband, Bryan, of Bells, Texas; 2 grandsons, Tyler Hatch and Zayden Owens of Bells, Texas; 2 step-grandchildren, Meredith Owens of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Addison Owens and his wife, Whitney; step-great-grandchild, Lyla Owens, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and 2 nephews, John and David Essay of Lincoln, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County.505 W. Center St., Sherman, Texas 75090-7827 or the Disabled American Veterans at DAV Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301.

Sherman, Texas - Merle Jeanne Peterson, 84, passed away on December 31, 2016 at her residence in Sherman, Texas.
Funeral services was held at Dannel Funeral Home on Thursday morning, January 5, 2017 with Pastor Tim Hankins of Sherman Bible Church officiating.  Burial followed at historic West Hill Cemetery.
Jean was born in 1932, daughter of Walter and Mina E. Monroe Weyers in Crab Orchard, Nebraska.  She started working on the family farm, then Lincoln General Hospital as a nurse aide, followed by the Elgin Watch Co. in Lincoln, Nebraska; Children's Palace in Florence, Kentucky; and Home Hospice of Grayson County before taking on her final job as a grandmother.
Jean married Claude Richard "Dick" Peterson on May 30, 1950 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  They moved to Denver, Colorado in 1957, then Villa Hills, Kentucky in 1976.  Jean and Dick celebrated 58 years together before his passing in 2011.
Jean was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Weyers; and husband.
Jean is survived by son, Chris Roy Peterson of Arlington, Texas; and daughter, Julie Ann Taylor and husband, Danny, of Sherman.  Jean has 2 grandsons, Tyler Hatch of Commerce, Texas and Zayden Owens of Sherman, Texas; a niece, Jackie Colton of Waverly, Nebraska; her sister, Waldyne Mallon of Omaha, Nebraska; and her brother of S. Doug Weyers of Denver, Colorado.
