Sherman - Funeral services for Charles H. Sexton were held Tuesday morning, April 17, 2012 at the Christian Life Church.  Rev. Larry Fenniken officiated, assisted by Larry Hicks, Bobby Eggenberg, and Tommy Sutherland.  Pallbearers were Jeff Hill, Jeffrey Scott Hill, Troy Miller, Jarred Hill, Ashton McClure, Stephen Eggenberg, and Arlyn Samuelson.  Entombment with military honors followed in the Mausoleum at West Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Sexton, 85, passed away Friday, April 23, 2012 at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ.
Charles was born May 20, 1926 in Johnson County, Arkansas, son of Charlie and Rosie Berdine Sexton.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in Africa and the Pacific during World War II.  After being discharged in February 1946, Charles began a career at General Motors in Flint, Michigan.  Several years later, Mr. Sexton retired and moved to North Texas.  In October 1979, Charles married Mattie Canaday in Leonard, Texas.
Charles was a deeply religious man and his life reflected his religious convictions.  He helped start and sustain the New Life Tabernacle (Christian Life Church), the Promiseland Church, and the Pentecostal Church of Boswell.  He was also a longtime member of the Local United Autoworkers' Union and enjoyed playing dominoes at the Sherman Snap Center.
Mr. Sexton will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He is survived by his wife, Mattie, of Sherman; 2 daughters, Debbie Eggenberg and husband, Bobby, of Phoenix, Arizona; and Judy Flenniken and husband, Rev. Larry, of Sherman; 2 sons, Tom Morris and wife, Carroll, of Sherman; and Larry Hicks and wife, Marcia, of Flint, Michigan; one brother, Joe Sexton and wife, Evelyn, of Altus, Arksansas; 5 granddaughters, Cory Miller, Amy Hill, Beth Perkins, Janis Bogaert, and Brittany Benge; 2 grandsons, Steven Eggenberg and Larry Hicks, Jr.; 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ray Sexton.
