Herbert was born in Sherman, Texas on April 23, 1938, son of John Perry and Nannie Belle Roe.  Herbert attended Sherman schools where he graduated in 1956.  He became interested in basketball in his freshman year and went on to help his team win state championships for the years 1954, 1955 and 1956.  After graduation Herbert went to work for Lloyd Plyler Construction and went right back to building a new addition to the high school he had just graduated from.  A year later he decided that was not his of work and joined the U.S. Army for 3 years and spent one year in Korea after the war.  After he left the Army, he came back to Sherman.  He took a position at LTV in Garland in the purchasing department.
Herb spent many days fishing and hunting with his father and brothers, growing up in Sherman.  Camping trips to the islands on Lake Texoma.  He enjoyed playing golf on the weekends with his brother, Robert.  In March 1876 Herb married and is survived by Linda Beasley Poynor, who had 3 daughters, Carie Downes married to Michael Downes of Hewitt, Texas; Julie Gershenson of Tucson, Arizona; and Joni Little married to Bobby Little of McKinney, Texas.  He also had 7 grandchildren, Cliff Dunnam, Chad Dunnam, Caylie Dunnam, Jeremy Gershenson, Jordan Gershenson, Blake Little and Trey Little, along with 2 great-granchildren who he loved and enjoyed spending time with.  Later in life Herb especially enjoyed times spent getting to fish and golf with Bobby, Blake, and Trey as they lived close enough to enjoy some of his favorite spots.  Herb's love and devotion for his family was certainly felt.  They thought the world of him and he will be deeply missed.
