S. BAKER, RETIRED CONTRACTOR, IS DEAD

S. Baker, a well known retired contractor and pioneer citizen of Sherman died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.W. Scott, 325 West Cherry street, at 10:52 o'clock Monday night  following a short illness.  Funeral services will take place Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Scott, with interment in West Hill cemetery.
Mr. Baker had resided in Sherman for forty-three years, coming here from Trenton, Michigan. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, 78 years ago. For many years he engaged in the general contracting business in Sherman, and built many of the substantial residences of the city still standing. He retired from active business several years ago on account of his advanced age.
Mr. Baker is survived by six children, his wife having died about seven years ago.  These children are: Mrs. J.W. Scott of Sherman, with whom he resided; Ancel Baker of Sherman, Ross Baker of Dallas, W.E. Baker of Houston, Mrs. M.A. Morris of Port Arthur and Mrs. Guy Bennett of Dallas.
