Prince Lucas 4 August 1931 - wed 1 June 1952  Denise Jayne Lucas 9 June 1957 - 19 November 1970  WICHITA FALLS - Jim Lucas passed away on Nov. 12, 2009 in Wichita Falls. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2009, at the Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. John Edwards officiating. Burial was at 4 p.m. Monday at the West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, with Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. Jim Lucas was born May 9, 1932 to Wayne and Velma Lucas in Sherman,. He graduated from Sherman High School and obtained an associate?s degree from Cook County Junior College while in the U.S. Air Force. He married June Prince on June 1, 1952. June is the love of his life. He proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Air Force from March 28, 1951 until July 1, 1979. He retired at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served in Europe as well as the Far East and a short tour in Argentina. He continued his service to the country while working in a civil service position at Sheppard AFB, Texas from 1982 to 1990. Jim's hobbies were varied. He raised Ponies of America and showed these ponies for several years. He was a member of the POA club of Texas. He was a charter member of the Red River Cutting Horse Association. He was an avid golfer credited with three holes in one. He loved to fish with his good friend Basial. Jim was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church serving in numerous positions. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise in 1970 and his parents. An adopted daughter Kay Phares in 2008. He is survived by his wife June; his son David and wife Christine of Royse City; brother Bill Lucas and his wife Millie; sisters-in-law, Melba Kratch and Jane and Ralph Mattingly of Sherman; grandchildren Scot Lucas and Darla Marchlinski of Dallas, Rebecca Christian of Shreveport, La., and Rachel, and Brandon Phares of Austin; great- grandchildren, Jessica and Melissa Marchlinski and Ethan Lucas of Dallas and several nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins. The family suggest memorials be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or any organization you desire.
