Sherman - Fran Hipps Shields went to be with her Savior on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.  She passed away at her home after a lengthy illness. A celebration of Fran's life was held Saturday afternoon, December 17, 2011 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Lonnie Shields and Irby McKnight officiating.  Interment followed at West Hill Cemetery with Everett Mitchell, Harold Mitchell, Steve Mitchell, Jerry Roberts, Dennis Marr and Joe Spears serving as pallbearers.  Services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Fran was born December 30, 1934 in Ryan, Oklahoma, daughter of Samuel and Lula Dickey Morris.  She was raised in Waurika, Oklahoma and was the last of 9 children.  She married Larry Hipps on April 4, 1954 in Plainview.  She came to Sherman in 1968 from Lubbock and began working for Everett Mitchell at Mitchell Enterprises as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1995.  She married Dwayne Shields on October 20, 1990 in Sherman. Fran enjoyed many years after retirement traveling in her motor home and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren .  She was known for her positive influence to all those that she touched and her faith sustained her through many illnesses.
Fran is survived by her husband, Dwayne; son, Steve Hipps and wife, Ginger; daughters, Lisa Mitchell and husband, Tim; and Stacey Taylor, all of Sherman; grandchildren, Laura Brenner and husband, Chris, of Sherman; Kimberly Magers and husband, Scott, of Pottsboro, Laci Lopez and husband, Armando, of Sherman; great-grandchild, JR Brenner of Sherman; brother, Samuel Morris, II; sister, Alma Dean; step-children, Lonnie Shields and wife, Diane, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Mike Shields and wife, Diane, of Phoenix, Arizona; Terry Shields and wife, Becky, of  Phoenix, Arizona; Laney Mahaffey and husband, Jerome, of New Paris, Ohio; and DeLisa Neville and husband, Glen, of Phoenix, Arizona; step-grandchildren, David Shields of West Palm Beach, Florida; Elizabeth McKay and husband, Mike, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Alyssa, Jessica and Joshua Shields, all of Phoenix, Arizona; Isaac and Anna Claire Mahaffey of New Paris, Ohio; and Katie, Caleb, and Cody Neville of Phoenix, Arizona; step-great-grandchildren, Maddy and Lainee McKay of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Logan Shields of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
