DALLAS - Funeral services for Mildred Irene Clark were held Thursday morning, August 5 at Waldo Funeral Home. Rev. Herb Peterson of the Long Branch Baptist Church officiated. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery with Ewing Goodrich, John Clark, Michael Harwell Sr., and Don Coker serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Clark passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010 at the Villa at Mountain View in Dallas at the age of 88.
Irene was born June 15, 1922 near the Ida community in Grayson County, daughter of Joel and Sara Nelms Coker. She attended Tom Bean schools and married Sherley Weldon Clark on October 18, 1941 in Howe. They were married almost 26 years when Mr. Clark died in September 1967.
Irene worked over 15 years at Methodist Hospital in Dallas and was a longtime member of the Mike Thomas-Oak Cliff Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Clark is survived by one son, James Weldon Clark and his wife, Sharon, of Dallas; one daughter, Carolyn Kirby of Grand Prairie; 2 grandchildren, Kimberly Schwartz and husband, Cody, of Mansfield; and John Weldon Clark and wife, Patricia, of Royse City; 3 great-grandchildren, Kimberlyn Schwartz, Kirby Ryan Schwartz, and Ryleigh Makaye Clark; and cousins, Nena Coker of Denton and Don and Rose Coker of Sherman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, one sister, and a nephew, Matthew Coker.
