Sherman - Melba Ruth (Brune) Baker went to meet her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the age of 96.  She was living at Presbyterian Village North in Dallas.  She was born Nov. 12, 1915 in Tioga to Lionel "Parson" Brune and Naomi "Oma"  (Keene) Brune.
Melba Ruth Brune married Carl R. Baker, her high school sweetheart, on June 20, 1936, in Denison.  They were marrid for 60-1/2 years before his death, Nov. 4, 1996.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Fern Law, several sisters- and brothers-in-law, and nieces and nelphews.  Melba attended school in Southmayd and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School.  She furthered her education attending North Texas College in Denton, and later in life attended Grayson County College.  Mrs. Baker began her career with the Whitesboro School system, and then the Kembell Diamond Company.  She was employed at the Grayson County Clerk's office and Johnson-Burks Plumbing Supply until her retirement.
Mrs. Baker was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Sherman, Texas since 1942.  She missed very few Sundays.  She served on the Pastor's Selection Committee, worked with the youth, and belonged to the Faith Sunday School class and Triple L.  She enjoyed participating in the Rio Rojo study club and the Optimrs's Club.  Her interests included being an avid bridge and game player, golfing, traveling, and gardening.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her loving family: daughters, Carlene Langford and husband Glenn of Houston Texas; Sally June Graham and husband Michael of Dallas, Texas; and her sister Joy Tomberlin Keen of Richmond, Texas.  Her grandchildren are Gregg Langford and wife Amy of League City, Texas; Dr. Leslie Culp and husband Dr. Richard of Troy, Ohio; Holly Graham Mitchko and husband Eric of Raleight, N.C., and Jeffrey Baker Graham of Shenzhen, China; great-gramdchildren Caitlin, Noelle and Rachel Culp; Barrett and Bryan Langford; Charles Graham Mitchko and Isabel Mitchko.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Carol and Bill McDougal; Sam amd Marilyn Kirk; Carlos and Jane Brady; Linda and TOmmy Ellison; Ray and Laurie Smith; and Troy Baker; and several great nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Mrs. Baker's life will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Mike Lawson officiating and Dr. Richard Culp assisting.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  In recognition of Mrs. Baker's life-long commitment, the deacons of First Baptist Church of Sherman will be honorary pallbearers.  The family will receive frinds one hour prior to service time in the Family Center at Waldo Funeral Home.
