Mrs. Jeff Abernathy Dies; Services Set
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Jeff Abernathy, 61, 1312 S. Walnut, who died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday in a Sherman hospital.
Rev. Bill Young wll conduct services. Burial wil be in Memorial Park under direction of Barrett Funeral Home.
Chauncey Taylor, Murray Nance Jr., James Dossey, J.H. Griffin, Eddie Shadden, Dewey Osteen, Clarency Payne and Ralph Lair will be pallbearers.  Deacons of the church will be honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Abernathy was born Aug. 15, 101, in the Bells community, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Veal.  She married Mr. Abernathy Dec. 23 1917 in Denison. They moved to Sherman in 1917.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Myers of Sherman; one brother, Silas Veal of Lueders; two sisters, Mrs. T.H.Morrison of Sherman and Mrs. H.J.Bruch of Wichita Falls; one granddaughter; and a number of
nieces and nephews.

Jeff Abernathy
Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Dannel Chapel for Jeff Abernathy, 86, of 1312 S. Walnut, who died Tuesday in the VA hospital at Bonham.  Dr. Tom Vrandon of First Baptist Church will officiate and burial will be in the Memorial Park section of West Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Dannel and Horton Funeral Home.
Born in Cherokee County, Ga., he was the son of J.M. and Cora Lee Abernathy.  He came to Texas with his parents in 1902 and lived north of Bells in the Ambrose Community until 1912 when he moved to Sherman.  He attended Bells school, Ivy Business College and Franklin Institute where he learned mechanical technology.  He owned and operated a welding and machine shop at 423 W. Lamar St. for many years and worked for G.W.Taylor Tank Co. for 16 years.  He retired in 1974 because of ill health.  He was married to Lura Veal on Nov. 23, 1917.  He was a member of First Baptist Church where he had been a deacon for many years, and was an Army veteran of World War I.
He is survived by a daughter, Ruth Myers of Sherman; sister, Mrs. Burk Dennis of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and a granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be R.F.Taylor, John Hunter, Bobby King, Wayne Kyle, Gene Fort and Johnny Bailey.
The family will be at the residence, 1312 S. Walnut.
