Shannon, Jr. 16 July 1924 - 21 July 1957 Texas STM1 USNR WWII  Laurene Shannon 23 February 1953 - 26 August 2008  The Herald Democrat August 28-29, 2008 Sherman - Laurene Shannon, 55-year-old Sherman resident, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center. Services were held Saturday morning, August 30, 2008 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Moore officiating. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery. Ms. Shannon was born February 23, 1953 in Sherman, daughter of Rev. Lewis Shannon Jr. and Varnell Boyd. She attended Sherman High School. She was a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church and a technician at Texas Instruments. Surviving are her mother-in-law, Lela Jean Spencer of Sherman; son, Dietrich Spencer, of Lewisville; daughter, Deedra Spencer of Sherman; brothers, William Shannon and wife, Naomi, of Sherman; Rev. Charles Shannon and wife, Linda, of Houston; John Shannon; Robert Shannon and wife, Lucille; and Jerry Shannon, all of Sherman; sisters, Fannie Cage of Austin; Wilola Chappell of Waco; Varnell A. Shannon, Brenda Wright, Iona Ellis and Elvira Price, all of Sherman; aunt, Oceola Mask of Sherman; sisters-in-law, Natalie Woods, Natasha Edmonson and Nateenya Spencer, all of Sherman.
