Sherman - Funeral services for Marie Wendeborn will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 at Waldo Funeral Home.   Pastor Craig Sturm of the Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate.  Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.  Mrs. Wendeborn passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the Homestead of Sherman.
Marie was born April 7, 1923 in Yarnaby, Okla. to Lester and Mary Vance.  Her mother died May 20, 1923 at the age of nineteen, when Marie was less than two months old.  Her father remarried and they had twins, Lodean and Lodeal.  Marie graduated from Sherman High School in 1942 and married Raymond "Sonny" Wendeborn on Jan. 6, 1946 in Grainesville>
Marie enjoyed w orking as a model for Elinor's Dress Shop and later became a very accomplished nurse.  She was the personal nurse for Dr. Lay, Dr. Bonner, Dr. Triplett, and Dr. Oliveras.  All the doctors knew and highly respected her as she was the one they relied on for excellent care and assistance.  Marie was also a completely devoted wife to Sonny.
When Sonny suffered several strokes and was home bound, Marie retired from professional nursing to care for Sonny until his death.  This took five years.  Marie was at his side 24/7.  She did it all and never asked for anything.  Her house was always spotless and she kept her yard manicured with glorious flower beds.  She was an excellent seamstress and a fabulous oil painting artist.  She was a self-taught painter by way of a TV program she watched every day.  Her best friend and sister-in-law, Mack Vance, gave her all the pointers she needed.  Marie was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Even though Marie never had children of her own, she considered all her nieces and nephews her very own.  She loved and spoiled them too.  In the last few years, she was cared for daily by Bob and Carol Moore and Brenda and Henry Scharff.
Mrs. Wendeborn is survived by her uncle, Ed Vance and his wife Sue of Sherman; cousin, Henry Lee Scharff of Sherman; sister-in-law, Dorothy Reast and her husband L.E. of Longview; nieces: Carol Moore and husband Bob of Luella, Brenda Scharff of Sherman, Chen Webb of Houston, Janet Copeland and husband Glen of White Oak, and Vicki Arnold and husband Denny of Plano; nephew, Les Vance and wife Carolyn of Ft. Worth; great-nieces and nephews: Kimberly (Moore) Wright and husband Justin of Midlothian; Clay, Scott and Shelby Copeland of Longview; Dana Martinez and husband Justin, Jarod (J.T.) Say and wife Amy of McKinney, Michael Vance and wife Kristen, and Tiffany Simper and Danielle Martinez; and her very loyal companion, Pepper.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond (Sonny) Wendeborn; parents, Lester "Pickle" and Mary Vance; brother, Lodeal Vance; sister, Lodean Vance; and sister-in-law and close friend, Mack Vance.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Waldo Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Building Fund at 1515 N. Travis, Sherman, Texas 75090.

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road
To Sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys.
Different paths along the way,
We all are meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place
Far Greater than we know.
For some, the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward
And find an everalstin peace.
Together with the Lord.
