Sherman - Billy J. "Bill" Reed, 78, of Sherman passed away Tuesday morning, December 2, 2008 at the Bonham VA Nursing home in Bonham.
Services were held Friday, December 5, 2008 in Waldo Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Gene Owen, Chaplain of the Bonham VA Medical Center, officiated and burial followed in the veterans' section at West Hill Cemetery.  An Honor Guard from Ft. Hood Army Base conducted full military graveside honors.
Bill, affectionately known as "Paw Paw", by his family, was born September 15, 1930 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Thomas Holly Reed and Anna Wray Reed.  His family moved to Texas when he was a youth and he attended school in Petty and Paris, Lamar County.  He moved to Sherman from Howe in 1980 and married Audrey Frizzell May 28, 1980 in Plano.
Bill served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a POW.  He was honored by receiving the Purple Heart for his actions during the war before his honorable discharge in 1954.  He became a manager and sales person of hardware stores, and also was a self employed screen and glassware worker.  He enjoyed camping and fishing and also loved to sing and play the organ.
He is survived by his wife of Sherman; four stepchildren, Gwen Glasgow and Kevin Jenkins of Sherman; Frank Jenkins and wife, Kisha, of Luella; and Belinda Jenkins of Pottsboro; three children, LeAnn Featherson of Brownsboro; Randy Reed of Dallas; and Anita Reed of San Antonio; a brother, Merl Reed and wife, Virginia, of Paris; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cleveland Reed; sisters, Doris Perry and Helen Brenham.
