The Day at Sherman

PROMINENT CITIZEN DEAD
J.C. Williams Passes Away at the Age of 70

Sherman, Texas, April 7 - J.C. Williams, 70 years of age, one of the pioneer citizens of Sherman and Grayson County, died at his home, No. 502 South Crockett street, this morning shortly after 4 o'clock.  His illness dates back about a year, and the last 2 weeks he has been in a critical condition.
Besides his wife he leaves only one child, Mrs. Lola Case, wife of Prof. George E. Case.
The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, interment to be in West Hill Cemetery immediately following the services at the residence conducted by Rev. Forrest Smith. pasto of the First Baptist Church, of which deceased had long been a member.
Mr. Williams has long been prominent in business and social circles.  In his young manhood he was deputy county clerk under George Dickerman, Clerk of the County Court, and after this was for a humber of years head bookkeeper for the old City Bank.  After his retirement from this position, he traveled for a number of years for the Sherman Mills.  He succeeded in all of his undertakings, and by his courteous treatment of people was very popular in a large circle.  At the time of his death, he was a large land owner and owned some splendid property in this city.
He was a good citizen in all of the walks of life, and the family have the sympathy of a large number of friends.
