S.W. PORTER CALLED BY DEATH SOMETIME DURING THE NIGHT
Was Many Years Prominent in Odd Fellows Lodge

S.W. Porter, of Sherman, was found dead in bed this morning.  He had been in bad health for some time.
Mr. Porter had been identified with Sherman's business interests for many years.  He was assistant cashier of the M. & P. Bank for some 20 years, retiring from that position after that time to devote his attention to his own affairs, for he was well-to-do financially.
Mr. Porter was for about 40 years treasurer of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Texas, a position he filled with credit.  He retired from the work on account of failing health a few years since.  He was an enthusiastic member of the order and could be found at all of the meetings of the Grand Lodge.  He was known personally to many of the local members of the Odd Fellows, who will learn of his demise with regret.  No funeral arrangements had been made when the Favorite got its report of his death.
Mr. Porter was the father of Mrs. William S. Maddrey of this city, who was informed of his death at an early hour this morning.  Mrs. Porter, the Favorite understands, has been dead a number of years.  The Favorite was not informed whether there were other surviving members of the family.
