BEN R. MATTHEWS DEAD
PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY LAST NIGHT AT HIS HOME HERE

Thursday's Daily - Ben R. Matthews, 78 years of age, died suddenly last night at 11 o'clock at his home in the Matthews House, corner of Crockett and Laurel Streets, while sitting in a chair. Dr. Worley, who was called, pronounced his death from natural causes.
Ben Matthews, as he was generally known, was one of the old timers in Sherman.  He came from his native state, Missouri, nearly 50 years ago and has been engaged in the hotel business here ever since.
His first wife died about 2 years ago and on April 11 of this year, he was united in marriage to Mrs. M.S. Morrell.  He is survived by his second wife and three children.  The children are John Matthews of Dallas; Jack Matthews of Wichita Falls; and Mrs. Slaughter Norwood of Bonham.
The funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, awaiting the arrival of his children and other relatives.

Later: Burial was in West Hill Friday morning following services at 10 o'clock.
