Sherman - Memorial services for Mabel Louise Craig, 86 year old retired teacher, who died Monday evening, May 13, 1997 at Covenant Presbyterian Church (formerly known at the First Presbyterian Church).  Rev. Neill Morgan of the church and Rev, Robert Thompson of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas officiated.  Interment was at  West Hill Cemetery prior to the memorial service.  Arragements were under the direction of Dannell Funeral Home.
Miss Craig was born October 6, 1910, in Sherman, Texas, daughter of R.T. Craig, Sr. and Lillie Mae Rorex Craig.  She attended Sherman schools and earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master's Degree from Austin College.
She taught school in the Presbyterian Mission at Kingsville for 7-1/2 years and in the Itasca Orphans' Home for 2 years before teaching the fifth and sixth grades at Raynal Elementary School in Denison for 28 years.  She also taught in a country school near Whitesboro for two years.
Mabel was active in Trinity Presbyterian Church which she joined in 1924.  She regularly attended Trinity except when she taught in the mission school in Kingsville.  She was an elder in the church and was active in C.E. Commission and Women's Association; she served as Interpreter for Involvement for several years.  She was also active in the Evening Circle and Vacation Church School, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
After her retirement from school, Mabel was busy with many projects; sewing and dressing dolls, crafts, and babysitting.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Alice Plank of Santa Barbara, California; 5 nieces and 1 nephew.
