Sherman - Funeral services for Ruby Mae Byrd wil be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Waldo Funeral Home.  Rev. Albert Fisher of the Key Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate.  Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.  Mrs. Byrd passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Texas Health Presbyterian -WNJ.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at Waldo Funeral Home.

Ruby Mae Byrd, 94, of Sherman, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Texas Health Hospital-WNJ in Sherman.  A memorial service will be at Waldo Funeral Home chapel on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 10 a.m.  Rev. Albert E. Fisher, pastor of Key Memorial United Methodist Church of Sherman will officiate the memorial service.  
Mrs. Byrd was born in Elmore City, Oklahoma on January 15, 1918, daughter of Edward Thomas McKey and Ada Florence Dixon McKey.  She graduated from Elmore City High School in 1936.  Ruby graduate from Ardmore Business College in 1938.  She was then employed by the Agriculture Adjustment Administration in Garvin County, Oklahoma for three years.  Ruby was then employed as civil service employee at Tinker Field-Air Service Command, Oklahoma City for four years and became supervisor in the Central Files Office of the Engineering Department.  She met Samuel Z. Byrd Sr. while an employee at Tinker.  They were married on June 9, 1946 in Port Isabel, Texas.  The Byrds made their home there for twenty years as they raised their four children.  Then in 1966 the Byrds moved to Sherman, Texas.  They owned and operated the Gulf Oil Service Station on Houston Street.  Ruby worked for more than ten years for the Sherman School Food Service.  She was a faithful member and servant of Key Memorial Methodist Church for forty-six years, an Eastern Star member for more than sixty years and belonged to the Carpenter's Chapter #183, Methodist Women, Key Care Missions, President and Pianist of Key Bible Class.  Ruby and Sam Byrd were married for forty-nine years with his passing on May 13, 1996.
Ruby is survived by her four children: Samuel Z. Byrd, Jr., his wife Vickie, of Dallas; Becky Savage and her husband Robert of Coppell; Janice Hoefer and her husband, L. Tom Hoefer of Lucas; and Tom Byrd and his wife Salina of Sherman; also survived by her seven grandchildren: Lori Byrd of Irving; Kevin Byrd and his wife Nicole of Richmond; Luke Savage and his wife Gina of Birmingham, Alabama; Clint Savaga and his wife Allison of Coppell; Tom D. Hoefer and his companion Dawn of Carrollton; Craig Byrd and Travis Byrd both of Sherman; and her serven great-grandchildren, Bailee Byrd, Shelby Byrd, Gracie Savage, Cole Savage, Ellis Faith Savage, Lexi Kate Savage, and Jacob Hoefer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Samuel Z. Byrd, Sr., and five brothers.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Byrd, Luke Savage, Clint Savage, Tom D. Hoefer, Craig Byrd, Travis Byrd, L. Tom Hoefer, and Robert Savage.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Key Memorial United Methodist Church, 901 East Houston Street, Sherman, Texas 75090.
