SHERMAN - Funeral services for Annabelle Nixon will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 6 at West Hill Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Garland will officiate with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Mrs. Nixon, 93, left this life on September 4, 2012 at Texoma Healthcare Center where she had resided for ten years.
Annabelle was born December 9, 1918 in Van Alstyne to the late Alvah and Kate (Ammonette) Ayres. She graduated from Van Alstyne schools in 1937 and married Charles Raymond "Charlie" Nixon on November 15, 1943 in Van Alstyne. Mrs. Nixon worked many years in retail sales. She was manager of the Sally Ann Dress Shop and worked for Prices Dept Store, Bealls, and retired from Montgomery Ward. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church and was a member of the Lioness Club. Mr. and Mrs. Nixon loved to dance with all their friends at the 300 Club. They were always active in the lives of their children and grandchildren.
After moving to Texoma Healthcare Center, Mrs. Nixon became very active in all activities. She was president of the Resident Council, a member of the Red Hat Society, and was domino champion several times.
Annabelle is survived by one son, David Nixon and his wife Gayle of Pottsboro; two grandchildren, Daniel Nixon and his family of Madill, Okla. and Hillary Nixon of Sherman; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Johnnie Vineyard and her husband Arlie of Howe; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends that she had made throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Nixon; brother, Frank Ayres; and one niece.
The family would like to thank her many friends for their love and also give special thanks to the staff at Texoma Healthcare Center, Heart to Heart Hospice, and Kelly and her staff at Grayson County Home Health.
The family requests memorials to the charity of the donor's choice and they will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. Wednesday, September 5 at Waldo Funeral Home.
