Monday Rites Schedules For Chief Deputy

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church for Oscar Lyons Jr., 53, chief deputy sheriff of Grayson County of Route 1, Sherman. He died at 2:45 a.m. Friday at a Sherman hospital.
Services were conducted by Rev. Don Elmore of Central Baptist Church and burial at West Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Waldo Funeral Home. Masonic rites were accorded at the grave by members of Travis Masonic Lodge No. 117.
Mr. Lyons was born at Whitewright, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Lyons, Sr. He attended Whitewright public schools, Grayson County college and a number of military colleges. He entered the United States Army in 1936, serving in Iceland, England, Belgium and Germany during World War II and in Hawaii and Korea during the Korean conflict. He retired as a captain in 1961 and was a member of the Grayson County sheriff's department since April 1, 1961. He was married to Bobbie Jo Bright on April 29, 1965.
Mr. Lyons was a member of the Law Enforcement Officers Association of Texas, the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, Travis Masonic Lodge No. 117, Dallas Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons, Hella Temple Shrine, Grayson County Scottish Rite Association, North Texas Shrine Association and of the Central Baptist Church.
Survivors are his widow; parents of Bells; son, Larry J. Lyons of Spring Valley, California; daughters, Mrs. Sharon Medlin of Dallas and Mrs. Brenda Adams of Garland; stepsons, Michael Birdwell of Sherman and Franklin Bright of Lufkin; brother, Jack Lyons of Sherman; sisters, Mrs. Emma Pearl Rice of Sherman, Mrs. Mary Burton of Dallas, Mrs. Jo Keith and Mrs. Margaret Brooks, both of Dallas, and Mrs. Grace Southerland of Konowa, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Roger Wingo, Harrison French, Shelby Bowling, Joe Medlin, Jerry Hallmark and Troy Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Russ Talliver, John Elmore, Walter Jarvis, Marshall Brown, Frank Patrick and Richard Pennell.
