JUDGE WOLFE DIES SUDDENLY AT HIS HOME
Sherman People Shocked To Learn Of His Passing

Had Been at His Office
Was About Professional Duties During Morning, and Seemed in Good Health

Judge J.A.L. Wolfe, prominent member of the Sherman bar, expired suddenly at his home, 1002 South Crockett street, at 1:05 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, shortly after arriving at home for lunch.
Judge Wolfe left his office in the Commercial National Bank building at 12:30 o'clock Tuesday, in his apparent usual good health after attending to his customary amount of business during Tuesday forenoon.  Upon reaching home, however, Judge Wolfe stated to members of his family that he did not care for lunch, and lay down upon a couch to rest.  His son-in-law, Dr. Wilbur Carter, was in the room with him and noticed him expiring.  He died, however, without calling to any members of the family, and apparently with case.  Heart trouble, with which Judge Wolfe had suffered in the recent past, necessitating an absence for a time from his office last year, was given as the cause of death.
Judge Wolfe was a native of Missouri, being born near Booneville.   He had lived in Sherman for the past 33 years, coming here from McKinney, where he first entered the practice of law.  His early Texas home was at Denton, where he was brought by his parents at the age of 4 years.  His education was in Texas.  He graduated from Trinity University, Waxahachie.

Successful in Business
Judge Wolfe's activities extended out of the purely legal.  Through his long connection as one of the leading bar members of Grayson County, and his business ability he had achieved success in a financial way, and at the time of his death he was president of the Sherman Loan & Trust Co., president of the Gordonville and Hagerman banks, a director for the Grayson Building & Loan Co., and a director in the Commercial National Bank of Sherman.  He was general counsel for the Texas State Medical Association.  He was an elder in the Central Presbyterian Church of Sherman, one of the trustees of its properties, and had held connection with the church outside the local congregational affairs.
Judge Wolfe is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Wolfe; and by one daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Carter, of Sherman.
Funeral arrangements, owing to the suddenness of the demise, had not been made Tuesday afternoon.
When the news of Judge Wolfe's  death was spread throughout the city, many expressions of sorrow and regret were hear.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR LATE JUDGE WOLFE HELD THURSDAY AFTERNOON
Scored of friends not only from Sherman, but out-of-town, paid their last sad respects to the late Judge J.A.L. Wolfe of this city when funeral services were held from the home, 1002 South Crockett Street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  The attendance of friends and acquaintances of the late Sherman attorney, who died suddenly at his home shortly after noon Tuesday, upon the services was unusually large from out of town.  Among these were a large number from McKinney, Judge Wolfe's home before coming to Sherman, and where he served Collin County as County Judge for several terms.  Judge Frank E. Wilcox of the Fifty-ninth District Court adjourned his court there and attended, as did Judge Silas Hare of the Fifteenth District Court of this city.
Judge Wolfe's fellow members of the Grayson County Bar paid their respects in a body.  The District Court recessed and the District Clerk's office closed during Thursday afternoon.
The religious services at the home were conducted by Dr. Wrenn Webb of Dallas, former pastor of Central Presbyterian Church here, and Rev. T.J. Manton, both of whom paid tribute to the integrity and moral force which were characteristic of the deceased.
Further expression of widespread friendship and acquaintance enjoyed by Judge Wolfe was found in the flowers sent to the home, which were unusually large in number and beautiful.
The body was laid to rest in West Hill Cemetery following the services at the grave.
