Rusty was born in Farmersville, Texas, the son of Lollace and Pebble Simpson May. He died at the Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center, Sherman, Texas.
He grew up in Whitewright, Texas where he graduated from Whitewright High School in 1957.
He married Miss Ann W. Roberds in Longview, Texas on 16 July 1966.
After graduating from East Texas State University with a Masters degree, he taught school for the Dallas ISD for five years. In 1968, he joined Texas Instruments (TI) as a supervisor and later was promoted to Manufacturing Manager. After many years of loyal and dedicated service he retired in 2000. He enjoyed his years at TI working with people at every level of the company, from factory workers to executives at the top of the company. Rusty was especially grateful for his friend and colleague, Burrell Ketcham. Around the hall of TI, he was known for his unwavering, but compassionate style of leadership.
Rusty was an avid golfer making four hole-in-ones and also shot his age on several occasions. He loved being outside working on the yard and taking care of his many plants. Two places he loved the most were at home and the golf course. He was an excellent woodworker making book shelves, tables, gun cabinets and other pieces of furniture. He was a true handyman and was able to fix most anything.
In retirement Rusty enjoyed spending time with family and especially Gunner, his grandson who was the apple of his eye. He loved being PaPa.
Rusty was very passionate about his country and was involved in the support of men and women of the armed forces as well as charities for law enforcement. He was on the board for the NFL Winners for Life, raising money to provide scholarships for underprivileged children.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
