Ross A. Irvine Dies on Holiday Visit to Oklahoma
While on a holiday visit in Oklahoma City, Ross Alexander Irvine, 68, Sherman automobile and real estate dealer for many years, died at 10 p.m. Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Irvine, who live at 1511 Lockhart, had gone to Oklahoma City to spend Christmas with his son, Sidney Irvine, and family. The senior Irvine became ill Saturday and was taken to a hospital. He had suffered from a heart ailment for several years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dannel Funeral Chapel conducted by Dr. Robert Bullock, Presbyterian minister and Austin College faculty member. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
A son of Sherman pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Irvine, Mr. Irvine was reared and educated here. With the exception of a few years in Montana and Colorado, his entire business life was spent in Sherman.
He was married to Miss Gertrude Bartholomew, who died in 1915. Later he married Miss Mary McConville of Sherman, who survives. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving besides the wife and son are two grandchildren and five sisters, Mrs. Mary Campbell and Mrs. Roscoe Russell of Sherman, Mrs. Margaret Colling of San Antonio, Mrs. Guy Bounds of Plainview and Mrs. Bob Hill of Oklahoma City.
The funeral party was to arrive in Sherman late Monday afternoon. Pallbearers will be Harry Bean, Harry E. Carter, George Copley, F.A. Johnson Jr., J. Tip Newell, Harry Hudgins and E.G. Johnson.
