ASHBURN CREAMERY 31 YEARS OLD HERE

Over thirty different ice creams and sherberts and butter and milk are sold at Ashburn's Creamery, 615 West Main Street, which in its well equipped plant has capacity to fill more than double the needs of Denison.
Visitors are always welcome at the creamery and retail store.  Looking toward the future the owners, W.L. Ashburn, Jr. and H.C. Ashburn recently purchased the building west of the present plant.
Ashburns owns ten other plants and stores, including a creamery in Fort Worth, stores there, and at Mineral Wells, Weatherford, Arlington and Whitewright.
The owners of the creamery here are two of seven sons of W.L. Ashburn, Sr., who was in the dairy business more than twenty-four years, but is now retired and lives in Denton, where he purchased in 1907 the Royal creamery.  The other brothers are all in the dairy or creamery business, including the owners of the Sherman and Dallas factories.
W.L. Ashburn, Jr., co-manager with his brother of their properties, remains at the Denison factory and H.C. Ashburn at the Fort Worth creamery.

STARTED AT RUSK
The original creamery started at 115 South Rusk avenue.  When Mr. Ashburn, Sr. retired in 1914, Martin Ashburn took charge.  He built the present creamery and moved to the new location in 1919.
Discharged from the Army after the World War, W.L. Ashburn, Jr. and his brother, who had been with a creamery in Oklahoma City, bought into the company, and later bought Martin's interest.  In 1928 the company started its expansion program with the Fort Worth creamery.
Business was build and the slogan, "Quality Counts - - Ashburn's Ice Cream - - Always Good" and today the company has almost all of the retail dealers' business in Denison.  Nine persons are employed at the local plant and two in Whitewright.
W.L. Ashburn, Jr. was president of the Denison Chamber of Commerce in 1936; is present vice-president of the Rotary Club and is chairman of the Denison District of the Chickasaw Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The creamery buys a large amount of milk and cream although the owners have their own herd of milk cows.

ASHBURN FAMILY HAS SERVED PUBLIC HERE FOR 64 YEARS
For more than 64 years the name of Ashburn has been associated in this area with food and dairy products, until the small beginning back when the father of the sown now running the business located in several north Texas cities, was a young man. W. L. Ashburn, Sr., started in a small way in the dairy business in Denison, prior to that conducted a grocery store in the Preston community. He later came to Denison and opened a dairy and ice cream business.
From the first the founder worked on the basis that only the very best in merchandise was to be sold and consequently he made fine milk cows a study and the handling of products an art.
Some years back, after having placed the business on a solid footing and having trained his sons to carry on, the senior partner retired and took it easy. He deceased in 1939 having 6 sons to survive and carry on the business.
The business spread until plants are located in Denison, Sherman, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Mineral Wells, Arlington, and Weatherford, with the sons in charge. Here in Denison, W. L. Jr. carried on the business. He is now housed in one of the most modern plants as to frontage and equipment in any part of the state, the cost tunning over $50,000.
