The Whitewright Sun J.M. Isbell Passes Away, "Mary M. Burks is listed as the daughter of James Alexander and Phoebie E. Burks in the Grayson Co. History,
which is incorrect............James A. and Phoebie were her uncle and
aunt. James A. is the brother of her father, Moranda Burks who
stayed in Kentucky. He is found as Moranda, Miranda, Maranda in
the census records. He married twice: 1st in 1836 to Sally
Murlin. We do not have a death date for her or a marriage date
for Mary Ann Wells, his second wife. PROBLEM: I have yet to prove which of the wives was actually Mary M. Burks' mother. John Marshal Isbell and Mary M. Burks had 7 children, all of which were born in Kentucky except my grandmother, Susan Elizabeth Letitia Isbell Crofford. She was born in Grayson Co. in 1881. The previous child, Thomas Jefferson Isbell was born in Hart Co,. KY in 1879. POINT: Mary M. Burks and husband did not come to Grayson with James Alexander Burks as the History of Grayson says. James Anderson Burks and wife Phoebe had a daughter. Sarah E. Burks, born in 1842 in Ky. Mary M. Burks, my great grandmother, was also born in 1842 (April 6) in Ky. Kind of hard for James and Phoebe to have two daughters (not twins) born in the same calendar year.......................... I have documents I can share if you need more.
